The Vizsla Newzsletter (April / May 99)
Bad 'hare' ...night!

By Pam Haley

I received a rather abrupt wake-up call at two o'clock this morning.

There was a cold, wet Vizsla nose going jab, jab, jab on my neck. This is not the usual technique for rousing 'mom' from a deep sleep but I responded anyway assuming that Daisey needed to go outside ' to potty'. By the time I staggered down the hall Daisey had raced back and forth to the front door three times 'roo-whining' constantly - it was obvious that this was something more than nature calling.

Since I did not know what was going on I held her collar as I opened the front door. Just about the time I realized that the front gate was wide open - the tense growling dog that I had ' in hand' alerted me that there was someone with a flashlight in the front yard!

My, very embarrassed neighbor greeted me with 'I am so sorry to bother you, Snickers is lose again!' In a quick debriefing Karl informed me that when he came home from work his son's rabbit - the Houdini of the bunny world - was grazing in their front yard. Startled by the car headlights Snickers dashed across the street and wiggled in my front gate. Snickers is a special pet for Karl's handicapped son and is also a frequent 'therapy bunny' at a local hospital.

As my sleepy mind raced throughout the best approach for finding a solid black rabbit in the middle of the night in a densely planted yard I noticed a sweet red Daisey dog 'on point' in the corner. In less than five minutes Snickers was back 'in confinement' and Daisey and I were back in bed. A happy ending for a very 'bad' bunny!
