Small Munsterlander - Overview
The Small Munsterlander type is thought to be over 500 years old. Breeding was not stabilized until the 19th century when the Germans began development of the other various versatile hunting dog breeds.
The Small Munsterlander should be a confident friendly dog, eager to please but with a stubborn streak if too much pressure is applied in training. A keen hardworking hunter with endurance that is best suited to moderate to heavy cover as the breed is generally close working.
The Small Munsterlander will point, track, and retrieve on land and water. Like many German versatile breeds they give voice on the track of furred game.
The Small Munsterlander is a strong but elegant dog. The head is slightly rounded, little stop, long muzzle with tight fitting lips. Ears are moderate size and set high on the head. The eyes are brown.
Chest is deep and not too narrow and there is only a slight tuck up of the flank. Back is firm and of moderate length. The tail also is of a medium length with a plume of long hair. The coat is dense, sleek and not over long with feathering on the backs of front and rear legs.
Colour is brown, white, or white ticked with brown. Tan markings are permitted on the muzzle and eyes.
