Large Munsterlander - Overview
Apparently an off-shoot of the German longhaired pointer; In 1909 the German longhaired pointer breeders accepted only the liver colours into their studbooks and excluded the black colour from breeding. Planned breeding of the black & white Large Munsterlander was continued by a club of dedicated enthusiasts.
The forte of the Large Munsterlander is it’s work after the shot. It is generally a dog of moderate working range.
The Large Munsterlander should be biddable and tractable, but still lively and confident – of sound disposition.
The Large Munsterlander has the typical German versatile’s head with little stop, long muzzle with strength of jaw but not ‘houndy’ in appearance. Dark eyes and moderate size ears. The body is strong with firm muscles, deep chest but only a slight tuck up in the flank. Front not narrow nor too broad, back firm and straight with long rump.
Tail is undocked and has plume of feathers in the middle.
Gait is springy and far reaching, the Large Munsterland can run in bounds!
