Good morning Madam Chair and Fellow Students.
I will understand if you do not recognise me
Or have not lived with me
Or have not meet anyone like me
For I am unusual and very rare.

If people do see me
They say "WHAT'S THAT!"
And look strangely at me
For I am a Hungarian Vizsla.

By the look on your faces, you are quite puzzled
Asking yourselves "WHAT'S THAT!" what is a Hungarian Vizsla
I am a large BEAUTIFUL breed of gundog
With a WONDERFUL personality
But then I am a Hungarian Vizsla.

My breed originated in Hungary around 890 AD
And was bred for hunting.
My name Vizsla
In Turkish means "seek"
And in Hungarian means "point"
Also I can retrieve
So a Hungarian Vizsla is a Hunter, Pointer, Retriever
Or H.P.R for short.

Which makes me part of a very select group of gundogs
Like German Shorthaired Pointers, Weimaraners, English Pointers
And Irish, English and Gordon Setters.

Although my breed originated in Hungary,
After many hundreds of years,
It eventually made its way to America after the second World War.

In Hungary most of the dogs were owned by rich land owners,
But once the war started many of the people left the country,
Leaving their dogs behind.

However one woman was able to take her dog to Austria,
And eventually got herself to America,
And later managed to get her dog sent over,
So that the breed was established in America.

Since then we have spread all over the world,
And even to New Zealand,
Where we are still even now a little known breed.

But to people who shoot and use our versatile skills as
Hunter, Pointer, Retrievers,
We are well known and a well loved breed,
For a our loyalty in the hunt,
Our steadiness in the point,
And our bravery in the retrieve.

We return this love and affection as this is our nature,
All we ask is to be part of a family,
To share your lives for our lifetimes.
